RenewAire®, a Waunakee, WI-based manufacturer of HVAC and indoor air quality (IAQ) products, has introduced the HE+DX Coil, a duct-mounted system that adds cooling capability to the commercial HE Series’ HE07 and HE10 energy recovery ventilators (ERVs). The HE+DX Coil offers dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS) functionality from an ERV with significantly lower equipment costs and shorter lead times. With its smaller size, it can fit into tighter spaces.
The HE+DX Coil targets the direct expansion (DX) and variable refrigerant flow (VRF) HVAC markets for schools, retail, government facilities, residential dwellings and other applications requiring supplemental air conditioning capabilities from an ERV.
Unlike off-the-shelf coils, the HE+DX Coil’s size and output are fully customizable based on the application’s unique design parameters. Engineers or contractors can input geographical, environmental, and other project-related design requirements free online via RenewAire’s proprietary AHRI 1060-certified selection software, CORES (configuration, order, report estimate/energy analysis, and submittal). RenewAire also provides capacity control data points to assist engineers and contractors with selection of a thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) and condenser for DX systems or a modulating valve for VRF systems. The factory-supplied HE+DX Coil itself is jobsite-installed in supply ductwork by contractors along with any required sheet metal transitions. All VRF Coils are sized according to the VRF system manufacturer’s specifications.
The HE07 (166–694 CFM) and HE10 (250–1,100 CFM) equipped with the direct drive advanced ECM fan option, easily accommodate the additional static pressure of a DX coil; with an ESP capability of up to 3.0 in w.g.. An HE Series ERV with an HE+DX Coil provides reductions in both latent and sensible loads allowing downsizing of the main HVAC systems. When the HE+DX Coil is combined with RenewAire’s premium control package and electric heating options, an HE07 or HE10 is transformed into a lower-cost supplemental or stand-alone outdoor air system (DOAS) that’s ideal for a classroom, healthcare office, and other smaller spaces requiring optimum IAQ.
The HE+DX Coil is available for use with R-32, R-454b and R-410a refrigerants in accordance with EPA phase-out schedules.
