Understanding the 2030 Challenge & The Cleveland 2030 District

Issued by the non-profit organization Architecture 2030, the 2030 Challenge is a global initiative aimed at transforming the built environment from a major contributor of greenhouse gas emissions to a central part of the climate crisis solution.

The Cleveland 2030 District is a public-private-nonprofit collaborative movement creating a high-performance building district in downtown Cleveland. Members are actively working to meet incremental targets set by the 2030 Challenge for Planning, striving to achieve a 50% reduction in building energy consumption, a 50% reduction in building water consumption, and a 50% reduction in transportation greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2030. High-efficiency HVAC design and advanced building science are critical pillars in hitting these aggressive goals.
