Capitalize on free cooling to reduce energy use and costs with RenewAire’s factory-installed bypass economizer option. The RenewAire commercial bypass economizer option, previously just for select indoor HE Series energy recovery ventilators (ERVs), is now available with our HE07, HE10, HE15, HE20, and HE1.5X rooftop units.
Product Overview
The bypass system works by rerouting one of the return airstreams to circumvent the core. The process works differently for indoor and rooftop units. Both systems use electrically-actuated dampers and a control system. However, indoor units have an either an internal bypass within the cabinet or additional bypass duct while the rooftop units have an extra exhaust hood.
For indoor units with internal bypass, the controller closes the outside air face damper and opens the bypass damper that routes the outside air around the energy recovery core through a bypass tunnel inside the ERV. For indoor units with external bypass, the controller closes the exhaust air face damper and opens the bypass damper (field installed) that routes the return air around the core through a bypass duct (field supplied). For rooftop units, the controller closes the exhaust air face damper and opens the bypass damper that routes the return rir directly out the back of the ERV through a third weather hood before it will encounter the core.
The bypass economizer option comes with two factory-supplied dampers and a choice of either dry bulb or enthalpy controls. For the dry bulb option,
the standard bypass control is temperature-based via a single outdoor-air controller and sensor. The enthalpy-controlled option uses a return-air enthalpy sensor in conjunction with an outdoor-air enthalpy and dry-bulb temperature sensors.
