Replacing the HE1.5X and HE2X ERVs, the HE15 and HE20 ERVs have direct drive EC motors, advanced performance impeller packages, and factory-installed optional internal bypass.
RenewAire®, a Waunakee, WI-based manufacturer of HVAC and indoor air quality (IAQ) products, has introduced four new commercial energy recovery ventilators (ERVs). With newer and more efficient motors, the HE15IN, HE15RT, HE20IN, and HE20RT will replace RenewAire’s popular HE1.5X and HE2X models.
Designed for schools and clinics, as well as retail and office spaces, these new, high-performing ERVs offer similar airflow specifications to their predecessors, the HE1.5X (375 to 1,650-CFM) and HE2X (500 to 2,200-CFM). Available in either rooftop or indoor, the HE15 boasts an airflow range of 369-1,621 CFM, while its counterpart, the HE20, has a range of 500-2,200 CFM.
Equipment Upgrades
Now standard equipment, the HE15 and HE20 ERV come with direct-drive, backward-curved electronically commutated (EC) motorized impellers. These motors are a substantial upgrade from the HE1.5X and HE2X ERVs. The HE15’s and HE20’s two EC motors are more efficient at 480W (120V/1-phase/60hz) and 770W (208-230V/1-phase/60Hz), respectively. In comparing the motor power consumption of the HE2XIN ERV with that of the HE20IN, RenewAire found that the HE20 consumed 34% less power than its counterpart.
Another upgrade is the advanced performance impeller package that come as standard for ERVs with either 208-230V/single phase, 208-230V/three phase, or 460V/three phase. Both the HE15 and HE20 ERVs achieve much higher external static pressures (ESP)—up to 4.0 w.g. In contrast, the HE1.5X and HE2X ERVs had a 1.50 w.g. static pressures at the same CFM rates.
In addition to model upgrades, the new HE15 and HE20 ERVs feature more options and capabilities than their predecessors. The HE15IN has the option for factory-installed internal bypass economizer. By being factory installed, contractors are saved from time-consuming and costly additional fieldwork beyond that of a typical ERV. The internal bypass economizer option includes low-leakage motorized dampers and either dry bulb or enthalpic controls. This system promotes single-source responsibility for commercial owners in their warehouses, schools, hospitals, and many other facilities.
The internal bypass is also an option for the new HE10 (250 to 1,100-CFM). A new feature appearing on the HE20 rooftop configuration is a bypass economizer.
Other HE10, HE15 and HE20 features include:
Advanced Performance options for HE10 only: 770W 208-230V/1-Ph/60Hz. Both HE15 and HE20: 2,150W 208-230V/3-ph/60Hz; 2,100W 460V/3-Ph/60Hz.
Options include factory-installed isolation dampers, integrated controls, and filter alarms.
All RenewAire static plate enthalpy cores are AHRI-certified.
Independent blower control.
Two-inch MERV 8 (standard) or MERV 13 filters available as an accessory.
Meets commercial code requirements with ETL-listing.
An industry-leading 10-year structural and performance warranty for the static-plate core. A two-year warranty for all other commercial product parts.
